City of Glasgow College has RYA courses running that may be of interest to members.

They have an RYA Day Skipper course due to start on Tuesday 27th September that still has some spaces available - click on the image on the left to see a flyer with some more details. If this is of interest, please contact the college on marine@cityofglasgowcollege.ac.uk to reserve a place.

Annual Regatta - Saturday 6th August 2016

This Saturday is the Club’s Annual Regatta. The race starts at 1pm and instructions are available in the 2016 Year Book here. Normal CBSC courses will apply and the course number will be displayed on the dinghy park fence at the start line.

Yachts who have paid their race entry fee for 2016 are encouraged to come out and take part in the race. Entry fee for the year is only £10 and can be paid to a member of the committee up to the time signal. Any members who are not entered for racing and wish to join in can follow the race round the course for fun. Gather for post-race discussion and to catch up with fellow members for drinks and nibbles in the Clubhouse afterwards.

Cruise / Race to Kip Marina - Saturday 21st May 2016

This Saturday is the Cardwell Bay to Kip Cruise / Race. The race starts at 2pm and instructions are available in the 2016 Year Book here.

As was done for the Opening Muster, the Club will pay berthing fees for any CBSC members’ yachts cruising or racing to Kip (short stay or overnight 1 night) - please speak to the Commodore when you arrive. The Club will again provide some wine, soft drinks and nibbles to enjoy on arrival.

2016 Castle Cruise

8th May 2016

As identified in the members’ survey carried out recently, there is a desire to have more sailing activities focused around cruising. Many members do not have the time to commit to attending races on particular dates and times.

With this in mind, we are announcing the inaugural CBSC ‘Castle Cruise’ competition for 2016. This objective is for members to sail when they want to and take pictures of their boat visiting as many castles as they can in one season. Rules and an entry log are available to download (in pdf format) for printing here.

Completed logs should be passed to a member of the committee by the end of October for a chance to win a prize.

Opening Muster Report

7th May 2016

The Opening Muster at Holy Loch Marina turned out to be an enjoyable day to start off the CBSC season in some pleasant sailing conditions (despite the snow on the hills). Club members’ yachts ‘Carrie’, ‘Joe 90’, ‘Nona’ and ‘Ravel’s Bolero’ were joined by the crews of ‘Moon Shadow of Newlyn’, ‘Star Belle’ and ‘Warrior’ who crewed along for the sail or came by ferry to enjoy some late afternoon and evening drinks in the spring sunshine as well as the party hosted by Holy Loch Sailing Club. The race was won by ‘Ravel’s Bolero’ and we hear that ‘Carrie’ was the fastest boat on the cruise back to Cardwell Bay on Sunday.

More pictures are available on Facebook page:

Next muster is at Kip Marina on Saturday 21st May with a race starting at 14:00. We are planning to extend the successful offering of free berthing at Kip (short stay or 1 night) and complimentary drinks aboard the boats on arrival. Watch this space and stay in touch on the Members’ Forum for further details.

Opening Muster at Holy Loch Marina - Saturday 30th April 2016

This Saturday is the Opening Muster with the option to cruise or race from Cardwell Bay to Holy Loch Marina. The race starts at 2pm and instructions are available to download here.

The Club will pay berthing fees for any CBSC members’ yachts cruising or racing to the muster (short stay or overnight 1 night) - please speak to the Commodore when you arrive. Hopefully we can get a few boats berthed together - use the inside of the breakwater or the 10-12m fingers opposite. The Club will provide some wine, soft drinks and nibbles to enjoy on arrival.

Members staying overnight are also welcome to join a Curry Night at 19:00 in the Holy Loch Sailing Club along with Fairlie Yacht Club and HLSC members. Cost is £14 per head. Please advise Kenny Macdonald of numbers attending at commodore@cbsc.org.uk so that we can advise HLSC to assist the caterers to plan the meal. A bar will be open in the clubhouse and you are also welcome to bring your own drinks.

Helen Lawrie

16th April 2016

We were very sad to learn that Cardwell Bay Sailing Club committee member Helen Lawrie passed away suddenly last week. Helen was a great friend to many members and provided many years of service to the Club, not least as Commodore from 1997 - 2003, like her late father some years before. All of our thoughts are with Helen's sister Morag, brother Robert and their families at this time.

A service will be held at Greenock Crematorium on Tuesday 19th April at 12 noon to which all friends are invited.

2016 Annual General Meeting - Wednesday 27th January
